Provide instructional support for the Department's undergraduate curriculum by designing and overseeing the fabrication of new lecture demonstrations and laboratory experiments which illustrate important physical and astronomical phenomena; consulting with faculty and lecturers to suggest demonstrations available and their safety considerations and setting up demonstrations in classrooms as needed. Maintain, refine, repair and improve the existing demonstrations and the multimedia online catalog with descriptions of operations and the physics ideas illustrated. Maintain laboratory infrastructure and computers. Consult with the course instructors to avoid and solve conflicting demands on equipment, and to instruct them on the use of the demonstration. Consult and work to create new demonstrations for courses. Design new curricular materials and teaching methods to improve physics instruction. Participate in physics outreach work when possible.

• Bachelor degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related science.

• Three to four years' experience designing demonstrations understandable to undergraduates.

• Knowledge of undergraduate university level physics and mathematics through calculus level.

• Ability to suggest, develop, and conceptualize a lecture demonstration for any physics principle mentioned, and to discuss how the principle is demonstrated.

• Skill in writing clear, concise and grammatically correct descriptions of demonstrations for the demonstration catalog.

• Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with the teaching staff to handle and/or avoid possible conflicting demands on demonstration equipment, to instruct new faculty in the use of demonstrations and suggest safety considerations and to generally encourage the use of demonstrations by course instructors.

• Ability to install, use, and trouble shoot software and hardware problems of personal computers.
