2012 Postdocs Applying
Climate Expertise Fellowships
Application Deadline: 4 January 2012
"Keeping pace with a changing
climate"
Postdoctoral
Applications
The UCAR Visiting
Scientist Programs (VSP) in collaboration with
the NOAA Climate Program Office announces the
2012 call for applications to Postdocs Applying
Climate Expertise (PACE). The program has been
developed to:
- Grow the pool of
scientists qualified to work at the
interface between climate science and its
applications;
- Transition advances
in climate science and climate prediction
into climate-related decision making
tools and frameworks; and
- Increase and
strengthen collaborations between climate
research institutions and decision-making
institutions across all sectors.
Postdoctoral
scientists research and develop tools that will
apply climate prediction information to
climate-impacted decisions. In each fellowship,
the work is conducted under the specification and
direction of institutional partners: a Climate
Research institution and a Decision Making
institution.
The program seeks
recent or anticipated PhDs who have expertise in
climate science and who are interested in
applying their knowledge of the climate system to
increase decision-making capacity in
climate-sensitive sectors.
Hosting
Institution Applications
Interested host
partners submit a joint Statement of Intent to
host, which is coordinated between the proposing
Climate Research and the Decision Making
partners. The Statement serves as an application
on the part of the institutional partners to
participate in PACE and to host a postdoctoral
fellow. Acceptance of institutional partners to
participate in PACE will be based on how well the
Statements of Intent align with PACE goals.
Strong preference is given to institutional
partners focusing on real-time climate-impacted
decisions.
PACE fellows spend
time at both hosting institutions and, ideally,
have office space provided by the hosts in both
locations.

prospectus and additional details, please visit

U.S. citizenship
is not required to participate in this program,
but the selected postdoctoral fellows must be
hosted at a U.S. research institution. Appointed
scientists are employees of UCAR. The two-year
fellowships include a fixed annual salary and
benefits: health & dental insurance, paid
time off, paid holidays, mandatory participation
in TIAA/CREF retirement fund, and life insurance.
A relocation allowance is provided as well as an
allowance for travel to scientific conferences
and other support costs.
The NOAA Climate
Program Office sponsors this program. The
University Corporation for Atmospheric Research
is an EO/AAE who values and encourages values and
encourages diversity in the workplace.
