Office of the Chief Executive (OCE) - CSIRO
Post Doctoral Fellowship in Applied Field Theory

Ø  Interesting application of Quantum Field Theory concepts

Ø  Development of new method of renormalization

Ø  Important applications to complex systems and geology

Ø  Long term career possibilities

The position:

Based on familiar Quantum Field Theory techniques such as path integrals, effective action and renormalizations; you will work closely with the Earth Science Division (CESRE) Science Leader on research into new methods of data assimilation and understanding of complex systems.

The main applications of interest are the assimilation of geophysical measurements with physics based models of geologic processes.  The methods are inspired by recent advances in image texture recognition based on iterative wavelet transformations.  The successful candidate is expected to advance the analytic theory and its industrial relevant applications.

                  Location:    Kensington (Perth) Western Australia

                  Salary:       AUD73K - AUD80K plus up to 15.4% Superannuation (Pension Fund)

                  Ref. No.:     WA00239

To be considered for this role, you will hold (or be close to submitting) a PhD in Physics and have an interest and relevant skill to work with the methods of field theory.  You should also be prepared to demonstrate:

·         an ability to undertake world class R&D;

·         your interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with collaborating scientists;

·         strong written communication skills, including a demonstrated record of publishing in technical journals.

The position is based in sunny, rapidly growing, Perth on the southwest coast of Australia.  There are good possibilities of long term staff employment upon the successful completion of the fellowship.
